Shiru Cafe @ Providence: One Year Anniversary

Posted by Yuko Miyawaki on Mar 25, 2019 11:52:00 AM

Last week, Shiru Cafe Providence celebrated its one year anniversary. Thanks to the support of the college hill community we have been able to operate until today.

In the past year, we've had an average of 600 students coming in daily, and we now have 22 student baristas working with us. Students have found the cafe comfortable and student friendly. They tell us that they always feel welcome here.

Our baristas are passionate about Shiru's mission and their roles at the cafe. Many of them applied to the job because they liked this warm atmosphere, and they have been central in creating and maintaining this friendly culture. Of course, they have been developing their barista skills too. Our special brew provided by Downeast Coffee Roasters, prepared by our baristas have been essential to the cafe.

We did have some challenges... notably with the Wifi, but good news- it's fixed! The good news does not end here. Ordering and communication with our customers has been made much easier with the launch of our new app, and most excitingly, we have our first event scheduled on April 3rd. Upserve, a restaurant management system company based in Providence, will be coming in to meet with students and recruit.

As we enter our second year, we hope to hold more and more events to fulfill our mission. Our goal is to develop Shiru Cafe to become a place loved by students and employers not just for its friendly atmosphere, but for the information and recruiting related service we provide.

Perhaps you could be the host for the next event!
